Experienced Otoplasty Surgeon

Probably no other physical characteristic cries out for facial plastic surgery more than protruding ears. Children, often the victims of cruel nicknames like “Dumbo” or “Mickey Mouse,” are the most likely candidates for otoplasty. This surgery can be performed at any age after the ears have reached full size, usually around five to six years of age. Even if the ears are only mildly distorted, the condition can lead to self-consciousness and poor adaptation to school. When it comes to otoplasty, conventional wisdom is the earlier the better. Adults may also benefit from this procedure, which improves self-esteem with relative ease. Often, adults choose this surgery in conjunction with other facial plastic surgical procedures. Not only is it possible to “pin back” ears, but ears can also be reshaped, reduced in size, or made more symmetrical.

SPLIT EAR LOBE REPAIR For a split earlobe, Dr DeRosa can usually repair it in the office in about one hour using local anesthetic to reduce any discomfort. The split is stitched together with special sutures to minimize scarring. The stitches are removed within a week, and you may have the ear pierced again in about three weeks.

EARLOBE REDUCTION Earlobe reduction is also a quick procedure. Although typically performed in conjunction with a neck or facelift under general anesthesia, this too may be done under local in the office in about an hour.

SAGGING EARLOBES Even a great facelift result can look unnatural next to sagging earlobes often seen on an aging face. For complete, natural and balanced results it is important to address all of the elements of the face.*
